The word “Patra Pinda” is derived from two words, Patra means leaves and Pinda means bolus. It is one of the major sudation process in which fresh plants having pain relieving, anti-inflammatory properties are fried with several other herbal ingredients and tied into boluses, then dipped in warm medicated oil and simultaneously massaged all over the body until sweating occurs.
It is a simple and effective therapy in the management of uncomplicated back pain. This procedure is unique in a way that it involves Snehana (oleation), Swedana (fomentation) and Mardana (massage).
How it works:
As the herbs present in the bundles are anti-inflammatory in action, they have an affinity towards the weak muscles and joints. The heat and continuous pounding of the bolus on the affected part help to increase the peripheral circulation. It also enhances the absorption of the active ingredients of medicinal herbs that acts as muscular relaxant thereby reducing the pain, inflammation, and stiffness.
